QPR boss Chris Ramsey has admitted striker Charlie Austin is likely to leave Loftus Road this summer with Newcastle leading the chase for him.

Austin has been linked with several Premier League clubs over the close season following the R's relegation down to the Championship and it is widely accepted he will find himself back in the top flight somewhere come the end of the transfer window.

However, with the new campaign kicking off in less than a week, Austin may have to start the season in the second tier with Rangers before moving on at the end of the month - unless a deal can be struck in the next few days.

Newcastle appear to be leading the race to land Austin, who hit 18 Premier League goals last season, but have so far baulked at the R's £15million valuation.

Ramsey is well aware there is considerable interest in Austin, who has also been linked with West Ham, Sunderland and Aston Villa in recent weeks, and he admits he expects to lose the forward when the club receive a suitable bid.

He told BBC London 94.9: "People are very interested. We know it's a financial situation where the players, given the right offer, will probably go.

"Selfishly, I hope nobody comes in for them.

"Whoever's in the building and can help needs to be on hand. What is happening is that the players are training very hard to get fit for the beginning of the season and if they're fit they'll feature."
