Tiger Woods is determined to recover from his poor form in time to make next year's US Ryder Cup team, captain Davis Love III has confirmed.

The 39-year-old former world number one and 14-time major winner has continued to struggle in his bid to return the the top of his game having been blighted by a back injury problem in recent years.

It was the issues surrounding his back injury which forced him to admit defeat in his bid to feature in the 2014 Ryder Cup after then captain Tom Watson hinted that he could be one of his wildcard picks after he failed to qualify via his performances.

Despite being fit and under the guidance of new coach Chris Como for the past eight months, Woods' game has failed to improve which was highlighted by a career-worst round of 85 at last weekend's Memorial Tournament.

Despite that debacle at Muirfield Village Golf Club, Woods will go again at the US Open in Chambers Bay next Thursday looking to show at least a glimpse that he is returning to his best.

Love claims he admires Woods' determination and backed him to do all he can to be a part of the United States team for the President's Cup in Korea this October and the 2016 edition of the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.

"He's positive...he's making progress," Love told Sky Sports.

"That's what I like to hear from him. He's not frustrated other than he's not coming [good] as quickly as he wants. He is focused making the Presidents Cup team right now.

"We've talked about playing some practice rounds. He is 'all hands on deck' as usual. He's working hard and pushing hard. Sometimes that's his problem...he works a little too hard and tries a little too hard.

"I like his attitude. He's still having fun with it. You can see it in his interviews. You can see it in his text messages and his conversations. He's laughing at himself a little bit."

"He wants to and I want him to as well. He sent me an idea the other day about the Ryder Cup. He is focused on the Ryder Cup and he's focused on making Jay Haas' Presidents Cup team. He wants to get his game back."
