England have reached lunch on the fourth day of the second Test on 32-0 after being set a massive winning target of 455 by New Zealand at Headingley.

Alastair Cook and Adam Lyth were both unbeaten on 15 at the interval as the storm clouds began to gather around the Yorkshire ground.

If England do succeed in winning the match they will have taken part in the highest successful run-chase in the fourth innings of a Test but, with the weather expected to be poor for the next two days, a draw remains a distinct possibility.

After starting the day on 338-6, the tourists batted on for an hour before declaring on 454-8.

BJ Watling added a further 20 runs to his overnight 100 before Mark Craig and Tim Southee put on 67 runs from only 52 balls.

Craig was 58 not out when New Zealand eventually declared, his third Test half-century, while Southee made 40 and Matt Henry was unbeaten on 12 off only four balls, twice hooking Stuart Broad into the stands.

Mark Wood was England's best bowler, finishing with figures of 3-97, while Jimmy Anderson and Broad both picked up two wickets.
