Stuart Bingham has vowed to continue to work hard after clinching a first-ever World Snooker Championship title by defeating Shaun Murphy in Sheffield.

Bingham edged a thriller at the Crucible Theatre 18-15, before pledging to continue with the hard work which has seen him claim the biggest prize in the game.

The 38-year-old had previously won just two ranking events, but hit top form over the last two weeks to defeat Ronnie O'Sullivan, Judd Trump and Murphy on his way to glory.

And afterwards, a joyous Bingham said: "It will be hard and I have to put the hours in again. I am going to be the same person, I will play in all the tournaments and hopefully I will be a good role model champion.

"Any kids growing up wanting to play, just stick at it. Lots of hard work, practice and self-belief, things like this can happen.

"Twenty years as professional, blood sweat and tears on the road. Qualifying in places like Prestatyn and Malvern. It is unbelievable."

Meanwhile, 2005 champion and 2009 runner-up Murphy, was magnanimous in defeat, adding: "He played like a champion. When I went 8-4 ahead he wasn't worried and played like a winner all the way through.

"Sometimes in sport people are meant to win things. Stuart loves snooker more than life itself and fully deserves to win the tournament."
