Gary Ballance says team-mate James Anderson will put victory over the West Indies ahead of personal glory as England hunt victory in the first Test in Antigua.

Left-hander Ballance was the star of day four at North Sound, as his 122 enabled the tourists to declare on 333-7 in their second innings, before they grabbed two wickets in the final session of the day.

He was helped by 59 apiece from Joe Root and Jos Buttler, while Ben Stokes chipped in with 35, as England set the Windies an unlikely victory target of 438 - with the hosts closing on 98-2.

Root took the catch off Stuart Broad to get rid of Kraigg Braithwaite for five, before an exceptional slip catch by Chris Jordan off the bowling of Root accounted for Darren Bravo for 32 just before the close.

That left England needing eight wickets on the final day to wrap up victory, with fast bowler Anderson needing one to draw level with Sir Ian Botham on 383 Test wickets, an all-time England record.

However, Ballance says the team will also come first, as he told BBC Sport: "If we can get those eight wickets, that's more important - he'll even tell you that.

"It will be great if he could get those wickets on Friday, but if he doesn't it's going to happen some day. He's absolutely fine.

"The wicket is pretty flat, it's not doing much. You're not going to run through a batting order on this wicket.

"To get two wickets, we're pretty happy. It's going to be a tough day on Friday, but we will be ready."
