Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that his club can find long-term solutions to the ongoing fitness problems hampering star striker Daniel Sturridge.

The 25-year-old England international has not featured for the Reds since the end of August due to problems with his thigh and has only recently returned to the training ground at Melwood after heading to the United States for treatment.

However, he is still some way off a return to action according to Rodgers, who has stressed the need to find a proper cure for the problem and not just a quick fix to get Sturridge back on the pitch.

He told the club's official website: "It will take him time. First he has to get fit, generally. Fortunately enough his body allows him, he's a naturally fit player.

"He proved that last year when he came back without much of a pre-season and did very well. But there's match fitness, football fitness, so it will take a bit of time.

"We have called in experts from different parts of the world, so we are hoping it will allow him to stay fit for longer and a more consistent period.

"Hopefully, in future all the work we have done and all he will have learned, means we will support him, keep him fit and have him available for selection."

Liverpool struggled in the absence of Sturridge and the departed Luis Suarez in the early weeks of the new season, but more recently they are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions.
