Frank Lampard has insisted he is committed to joining New York City FC and hit out at the "lies and nonsense" over his delayed move to the MLS.

The 36-year-old took to Facebook on Friday to insist he is relishing a new chapter in his career when his loan arrangement with champions Manchester City finishes at the end of the Premier League season.

New York fans' group the Third Rail said it "publicly denounced" a decision by Lampard to prolong his stay with Manuel Pellegrini's men and added supporters of the league's new franchise were "rightly outraged".

The former Chelsea midfielder said his new club were always aware of his situation at the Etihad Stadium and called for patience.

"I want to make it completely clear about my situation as I have read a lot of lies and nonsense over the last few days," he said.

"When released from Chelsea last year at the end of my contract I signed a commitment to play in NYCFC for two years starting January 1st 2015.

"I was then offered the chance to train and be part of the Man City squad in the interim to keep myself in the best shape going into New York.

"This period has since been extended by Man City and I now will start playing for NYCFC at the end of this current Premier League season."

The Premier League ends on 24th May, while the Champions League final takes place on 6th June - Manchester City face Barcelona in the last 16 next month.

The new deal means Lampard could miss the first three months of the MLS season but the former England midfielder said he was not having second thoughts about his move.

He added: "There has always been a constant dialogue between all parties in this time to find the best solution for everyone.

"I can say that I am very excited about arriving in New York and giving everything to the team to make us a success in the MLS as soon as possible.

"Thanks everyone for your ongoing support and I wish everyone a healthy and happy 2015."
