Newcastle boss Alan Pardew admits losing a fourth successive derby clash with Sunderland is "a tag that is going to stick" with him.

Pardew has now overseen four consecutive losses to Sunderland, with three of those coming at St James' Park.

Sunderland secured the win thanks to a late effort from Adam Johnson, but Pardew feels his side deserved to win.

"Losing four in a row is a tag that is going to stick on me," said Pardew.

"It's another defeat to Sunderland and it hurts. We should be sitting here as winners but we have lost."

The St James' Park outfit have now lost three consecutive fixtures in all competitions after becoming the first team to beat Chelsea this season, and Pardew is eager to bring that losing run to an end.

Pardew has now called on his side to bounce back when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

He added:  "We have to regroup and take our second-half form into the game against Manchester United."
