Roberto Martinez has said Everton will have to stop free-scoring dangerman Sergio Aguero to have any hope of beating Manchester City on Saturday.

The Argentina striker has scored five goals in his last three games in all competitions - including a hat-trick against Bayern Munich in the Champions League to keep alive City's hopes of reaching the knockout stages - and is now on 14 for the season.

He scored a brace in a 4-1 win at Sunderland in midweek and Martinez is in no doubt that his defenders will have to be on their guard against the 26-year-old.

"He is a phenomenal talent and can single-handedly win a game," Martinez told reporters, ahead of Saturday's trip to the Etihad Stadium to face the champions. "We will have to be very aware because City are playing their best football."

From a torrid spell at the end of October, in which Manuel Pellegrini's tenure came under scrutiny off the back of a wretched run of three defeats in four games in all, City are now unbeaten in five games and Martinez is concerned his players are hitting a team bang in form.

The Spaniard added: "They have got a good feeling from the Bayern Munich game. You saw a real change in their confidence and they playing with flair and swagger and could be one of the hardest teams to face in the Premier League at the moment, as well as Chelsea."

Everton are set to have defender Antolin Alcaraz back from a shoulder injury, but Martinez does not expect Steven Naismith, James McCarthy (both hamstring) or Darron Gibson (knee) to be ready to make their comebacks, while Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo may feature.
