Harry Redknapp has refused to rule out a third reunion with Jermain Defoe but admitted it will be "hard" for QPR to sign the Toronto striker.

The veteran manager has twice worked with Defoe before, at Portsmouth and Tottenham, and has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his attacking options in the January transfer window.

The 32-year-old Defoe, who has scored 19 goals in 55 appearances for England, came close to moving to Loftus Road in the close-season before being tempted by a switch to Major League Soccer.

When asked about the prospects of signing Defoe again, Redknapp told reporters: "It depends on the cost. He has a great contract where he is but it will be hard for someone to afford him. I love him as a player but it will be hard."

"We do need some cover," added the manager. "We need some strikers as you need options to change it up. That's an area will look at. There won't be a lot of activity but if we can strengthen one or two areas we will."

The capital club have lost six straight games on the road in the Premier League and on Tuesday travel to take on Swansea City.

"There have been difficult fixtures," said Redknapp. "We had Villa at home, then a massive game against Leicester. We got a point against Man City so we are in good form at home, playing very well. I think we need to take some points away from home now, that's the key for us.

"There are eight or nine in a relegation battle in my opinion who could get sucked into it. I think we have as good a chance as any of staying in the division."
