Roy Hodgson expects a stern test when his England side travel to Scotland for a friendly on Tuesday.

The Three Lions have four wins from four games in their Euro 2016 qualification campaign to date, having seen off Switzerland, San Marino, Estonia and Slovenia.

Hodgson feels the clash against Scotland at Glasgow's Celtic Park will be a more intense affair, despite the fact it is a friendly, and he believes that is a test the England players need.

"We know there are a lot of stern tests ahead of us and it starts on Tuesday night," said Hodgson.

He added: "The Scottish fans are exceptional, especially at Celtic Park. That is all to the good. That is what we need.

"We have done all we can do in these first four qualifying games so we are reasonably satisfied with that, but we know there is a long way to go.

"A game like that in Scotland will probably tell me a little bit more about this team.

"I hope the players who get a chance to play will be able to stand up to any crowd pressure and I hope they will learn from it. Any lessons we take from it will only be valuable in the future."

England won the last meeting between the two sides 3-2 at Wembley in 2013 but Scotland should head into the showdown in confident mood having beaten the Republic of Ireland 1-0 on Friday.

Hodgson’s side will be without first-choice keeper Joe Hart for the trip to Glasgow as he has been released from the squad, with former Celtic stopper Fraser Forster expected to start in his absence.
