Sam Allardyce has said West Ham have a chance to take advantage of a potential Champions League hangover suffered by Manchester City.

The champions blew a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead to draw 2-2 against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday and leave their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the competition in the balance.

Manuel Pellegrini's side now have two points from three games in Group E after losing at Bayern Munich and drawing at home to Roma.

However, they have only lost once so far this season in the Premier League and have put 11 goals past Saturday's hosts in three straight wins without conceding.

The east Londoners have only lost one of their last five Premier League games and are up to fourth in the table.

Allardyce is hoping his players can expose any weaknesses in the City camp ahead of Saturday's meeting at the Boleyn Ground.

He said: "We've got a different team to when we played Man City last season. They're a fabulous side but if we're going to challenge them at any time this season this might be it, coming off a Champions League game. If we can keep their superb attacking force quiet we'll then have to see if we can exploit any weaknesses."

Allardyce was given the brief to create a more attacking brand of football at the start of the season and 15 goals from their opening eight games would suggest the transition is working.

He added: "We've scored 15 goals in our first eight games and our total last year was 40. It shows what goalscorers can do."
