Brendan Rodgers has said speculation about the future of teenage England forward Raheem Sterling is "not a big issue" for Liverpool.

Sterling has developed into one of the country's most exciting young talents and has already scored three goals so far this season in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old is under contract at Anfield until 2017 but is reportedly being monitored by the likes of Champions League winners Real Madrid and French big-spenders Paris Saint-Germain.

Rodgers said club officials are relaxed about the situation and revealed talks have already taken place with Sterling's representatives for assurances about his future.

He said: "His agent is a good agent and he understands this is the perfect place for him.

"It's not a big issue for us. [Chief executive] Ian Ayre has spoken with his representatives and he is quite relaxed. The club is dealing with the agent so everything is calm."

Sterling scored nine goals as Liverpool ended last season in second place and played in all three group games of England's disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil.

Rodgers added: "The boy is remarkably happy here and there are no secondary thoughts about anything else other than continuing to play for Liverpool.

"Also, to continue with his development because he still has a lot of growth and for that the best place for him to be is here. His representatives respect that and the club respects that. So that will get sorted out in time."
