Mauricio Pochettino has urged his players to bounce back from the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool when Spurs take on Sunderland this weekend.

Former Southampton boss Pochettino is set to use recent signings Federico Fazio and Benjamin Stambouli in Saturday's clash at the Stadium of Light but Roberto Soldado (neck) and Kyle Walker (hip) definitely miss out.

"We need to learn and we need to improve," said Pochettino. "We need to build a strong team, a confident team and a solid team. In the 90 minutes, 3-0 is impossible to put forward an excuse, but when you analyse the game we get a lot of situations to improve on.

"In the future this is a good game to learn from for us when we need to compete with a big team and we need to improve our game. The fans watch and see that we need to improve and the changes from the past two months. You always need time and you need passion. You also need results and I think we are heading in the right way."

Spurs, 16/5 to finish in the top four this season, are available at 7/1 to beat Sunderland 1-0 at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Pochettino has not ruled out the possibility of Spurs playing in Milton Keynes for the 2017/18 season.

Tottenham announced earlier this week that they are "highly unlikely" to move into their proposed new stadium at Northumberland Park in 2017. Wembley and the Olympic Stadium have been touted as possible temporary homes for Spurs while construction on their new 56,000-seater ground continues.

Stadium:mk has also been mentioned as a possibility, and Pochettino said: "I was in Milton Keynes to watch the game against Manchester United in the Capital One Cup. It was the first time I've watched a game there, and it is a very good stadium with very good facilities but nothing more, it's just a possibility."
