Andy Murray can't wait to come up against Novak Djokovic again after knocking Jo-Wilfried Tsonga out of the US Open in straight sets.

The Scot set up a quarter-final encounter against the world number one by beating Tsonga 7-5 7-5 6-4 on Monday.

"I think that's really why we play the game," said Murray of his encounter with Djokovic. "That's what you put the work in for, so that when you come to these events and you do have to play against the best players that you're ready. And, as much as it's incredibly tough and challenging, the match, that's what you enjoy."

Murray had been beaten by Tsonga at the Toronto Masters last month but produced a fine display as he recorded his first victory against a top-ten player since his success in the 2013 Wimbledon final against Djokovic.

Murray added. "I feel like I'm playing well. I'm going to have to play extremely well to win the event or even just to get through the next match. I'll just try and take the confidence that I gained from a win like this into the next round, and hopefully put on another good performance."

Djokovic has won 12 of his 20 meetings with Murray but the 27-year-old Scot is attempting to reach his second major semi-final of the season, having won through to the last four of the French Open where he was beaten by Rafael Nadal.
