Murray hopes to keep cramp at bay

Andy Murray is in second round action at the US Open early on Friday morning and will hope that the cramp he suffered in his first round win does not return.

His game against the German qualifier Matthias Bachinger is part of the late evening session on the Arthur Ashe court and his opponent, ranked 235 in the world, is in a Grand Slam second round for the first time, having caused a shock by beating the experienced Radek Stepanek in round one.

While Murray will be expected to comfortably beat Bachinger, he has had a disappointing 2014 season so far. He has not yet won an ATP singles title this year and is down to number nine in the world.

He will also hope that the cramp he suffered on court earlier this week, does not return. The Scot beat Robin Haase in the first round but had problems during the match, suffering cramp after just an hour and a half which contributed to him losing the third set 6-1.

He recovered to win the fourth set and the match but is still unsure what caused the problems. He said: "I didn't feel unbelievably nervous before my first match. I don't feel any different but I'm happy I'm still in the tournament. I could easily be on my way home."

Bachinger meanwhile, goes into the match with Murray with nothing to lose, and has had much more time on court in the past few days. He flew out to New York early last week after being told that he had a place in qualifying; came through the three rounds to the first round proper and now meets
