Stevan Jovetic hopes he will be given the chance to prove his worth at Manchester City after enduring a dismal first season with the club.

The Montenegrin striker moved to the Etihad Stadium from Fiorentina last summer but struggled with injuries and only managed to score three goals in 13 Premier League matches for the champions.

Despite being linked with a move away from City this summer, Jovetic is determined to stay and fight for his place in the team, even though he faces competition for a starting spot from the likes of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo.

Jovetic, who has impressed in pre-season, scoring five goals in four pre- games, said: "I don't want to speak about last year, because I have said so many times what happened. I just want to look to the future.

"I am happy to be here and I know that I am going to be an important player for this club and I am happy to be a part of this team. Of course, I am expecting so much from myself this season, I expect to score so many goals."

Meanwhile, Dzeko has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal with the club. The Bosnian forward, who joined City from Wolfsburg in January 2011, will remain with the Blues until 2018 if he sees out his contract.

He said: "I'm really happy here at City, it's a second home to me, so it was an easy decision to stay for the long-term. Over the last three-and-a-half years we've made history together but I feel like we are only at the start of something really special.

"There are still so many objectives and goals that I want to reach from my career in the game and I believe that I am in the perfect place to achieve them all."
