India have confirmed that fast bowler Ishant Sharma will not have recovered from injury in time to feature in next week's fourth Test against England at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old, who took 7-74 in the second innings of the second Test victory against Alastair Cook's side, missed the match at Southampton which England won to tie the five-match series up at 1-1.

Ishant was badly missed by India in the third Test with his replacement, Pankaj Singh, taking 0-179, the worst ever figures by a debutant in Test history.

India captain MS Dhoni confirmed the news, saying about Ishant: "Definitely he won't be fit for the next game. Never really had a discussion with our physio, but as of now he won't be available for the fourth Test match."

India have endured several injuries during the tour with Bhuvneshwar Kumar struggling with an ankle niggle, while Naman Ojha has been handed a maiden Test call-up as second-choice wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has been ruled out of the rest of the tour.

Meanwhile, England's unlikely third Test hero, Moeen Ali, who took 6-67 as India were beaten by 266 runs, said when asked if it was his best day in an England shirt: "Yeah definitely. Just winning a Test match for England; even if I didn't get the six wickets it would be the best moment.

"I'm just very happy. I'm more happy that I contributed to the team winning the game. That makes me more happy, but even if I didn't and we won the game I'd still be really happy.

"I think we've set our standard now. That's the level of cricket we want to play - to really boss the game as much as we can, every session counts. Hopefully that's a kick-start into a new era."
