England limited-overs batting coach Graham Thorpe says his side need to succeed against spin bowling if they are to impress at the upcoming World Twenty20.

Thorpe is currently with the England squad in the West Indies, where their frailties against spin again showed up as they lost the first T20 international by 27 runs in Barbados.

And the former Surrey and England left-hander is aware that his side need to find a way to do better, with a barrage of spin bowling expected when the World T20 gets underway in Bangladesh.

"Playing spin for English players is not straightforward," Thorpe said. "We mustn't fret about it, we must just improve.

"We have to identify those players who are capable of going to Bangladesh and actually having a gameplan and the skill to be able to perform - know where they can score their boundaries and put competitive scores on the board.

"To do that, we have to be bold; we have to hit boundaries and be able to manoeuvre the ball around against quality spinners - maybe bowlers we don't read as well."

England will be without Joe Root (broken thumb) for the action in Bangladesh, with Ian Bell called up as a replacement for the Yorkshire batsman.

The Three Lions are also sweating on the fitness of T20 captain Stuart Broad, who is being troubled by a knee injury.
