Andy Murray set his sights on finally landing the title after easing into the second round of the Australian Open by seeing off Japanese Go Soeda 6-1 6-1 6-3.

Murray, who has only recently returned to action after back surgery ended last season prematurely, admitted that he was lacking in match practice, but was looking forward to a challenge to finally land the title in Melbourne.

Having been beaten in the final three times in the last four years, Murray said: "This is a tournament I've come close at a few times, so I'm more confident than I was a few years ago, but I'm lacking match practice.

"I'm desperate to try to win here. I've had a lot of near misses and played some of the best tennis of my career here."

Murray can now be backed at 8.50 to be crowned Australian Open champion in 2014, with Rafael Nadal 4.00 and three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic 1.72.

Meanwhile, Murray was content with how his back had held up against Soeda, adding: "It was my first Grand Slam since my back surgery so I was taking nothing for granted and I'm really happy to win in straight sets.

"Hopefully I wake up tomorrow and there's no after-effects. It's been a good start for me and hopefully I can keep going."
