Tim Bresnan has been officially added to the England Ashes squad and is in line to play in the second Test against Australia in Adelaide.

The Yorkshire all-rounder, who had been suffering with a back problem, successfully came through a recent outing for the Performance Programme against a Queensland 2nd XI and is now firmly in contention to face the Baggy Greens.

Bresnan has played in 21 Test matches to date, taking 67 wickets at an average, including 11 in two Tests in Australia in 2010/11.

If Bresnan is included by England it may be at the expense of Chris Tremlett, or he may be added as an extra bowler if the tourists opt to go in with just five batsmen.

Meanwhile, Australia paceman Ryan Harris hopes that England move Ian Bell up to number three in their batting order, so he can get an earlier crack at the in-form right-hander.

Harris, who took five wickets in the 381-run win in the first Test in Brisbane, told reporters: "It's going to be interesting to see who they put in there.

"Hopefully it's Bell, because we get an earlier chance to get him out. I want to get him in there early.

"He did very well in that last series and he came in at times when they were under the pump and made big scores.

"It (number three) obviously gives him more time to get in, but it also gives us more time to have a crack at him."

Bell is 9/2 to be England's leading 1st innings batsman in the second Test, with captain Alastair Cook 3/1 and Kevin Pietersen 7/2.
