Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has warned Arsenal that they will have seriously up their offer if they are to have any chance of signing Luis Suarez.

The Gunners have lodged an improved bid of £40,000,001 for the Uruguayan striker, but Rodgers says that that is still some way short of an appropriate valuation of the player.

Rodgers said during the Reds' pre-season trip to Australia: "If Arsenal want the player, then they have to produce the value for the player.

"There was an offer a few weeks ago of £35million and two weeks later it is now £40million and a pound - I don't think it is anywhere near the value of what he is worth.

"But it is twofold, really. A player may want to go, but then somebody has to pay the value or worth of that player."

Rodgers also said that Suarez had reacted well to the uncertainty surrounding his future, having featured as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory at a packed MCG.

"After the bid came in Luis was okay, he said he was okay to go on the pitch and his focus was fine," Rodgers added.

Suarez has scored 51 goals in 96 appearances for Liverpool since his £22.8million arrival from Ajax in January 2011.
