Kevin Pietersen is set to return to England action next week after being named in the 14-man squad for the two-match T20 series against New Zealand at The Oval.

The 32-year-old, who has not played for three months because of a knee injury, will feature in the second game on 27th June if he comes through Surrey's County Championship match against Yorkshire at Headingley unscathed.

The first game against the Black Caps is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 25th June.

Eoin Morgan will captain the side, which includes two newcomers to the international scene - Yorkshire batsman Gary Ballance and Warwickshire pace bowler Boyd Rankin.

National selector Geoff Miller said: "We have selected a squad with plenty of T20 experience as well as young players new to the international game.

"With an intense period of cricket coming up we are conscious that we need to manage the workloads of our players throughout the summer.

"New Zealand are a talented limited overs side and, with a World T20 competition less than a year away, this series gives us a chance to look at a number of different options."

England are 8.00 to win next year's World T20 title outright while New Zealand are available at 13.00.
