Australia captain Michael Clarke has not recovered from his back problem in time to feature in the Champions Trophy game against New Zealand on Wednesday.

Clarke, who missed the weekend defeat to England, is reported to have made good progress from the injury in the last few days, but has still not been able to return to training.

The injury, which has plagued him since his teenage years, ruled him out of a Test for the first time on the tour of India in March, when he was forced to sit out of the final game in Delhi.

"Michael is continuing to have intensive treatment in London and, while he is making good progress, he has not improved sufficiently enough to play the game against New Zealand on Wednesday," confirmed the Baggy Greens' physio Alex Kountouris.

"We will continue to monitor his progress and determine his availability for next week's final group game against Sri Lanka."

The Sri Lanka match is scheduled to take place at The Oval on Monday 17th June.

George Bailey, who captained Australia during the warm-ups and in the opening game against England, will again lead the side against New Zealand.
