England have taken two wickets on a rain-shortened morning of the final day of the second Test against New Zealand to move to within two wickets of victory.

The tourists were boosted by a 45-minute delay in the start of play at Headingley, but when the action did get underway, England quickly made further inroads.

Having resumed on 158-6, the Black Caps added just four to their total before captain Brendon McCullum was superbly caught and bowled by Stuart Broad for one.

Tim Southee and Doug Bracewell then struck some lusty blows to give the tourists hope of saving the game, with the victory target of 468 well out of sight.

They added 56 for the eighth wicket before Southee edged a catch to first slip Jonathan Trott off the bowling of off-spinner Graeme Swann and departed for a hard-hitting 38, made from 41 deliveries.

Bracewell was 19 not out, including two fours and a six when rain and bad light forced an early lunch, with Neil Wagner yet to score.

Swann had taken 5-90 to add to his four wickets in the first innings, with New Zealand lunching on 219-8 in their second innings.

England are now 1.80 to wrap up victory and seal a 2-0 series sweep, with the draw 1.90, while Bracewell is 2.20 to be the next man dismissed.
