Ahead of the clay court season Andy Murray has vowed to work to improve his serve, despite moving up to number two in the latest world rankings.

Murray was concerned after a gruelling 2-6 6-4 7-6 victory over David Ferrer in the final of the Miami Masters, which moved him above Roger Federer and into second place in the rankings behind Novak Djokovic.

The reigning US Open champion is aware that he needs to work on his serve, having lost the first five games of the match against Ferrer, survived a match point and been broken in each of his first three service games in the final set.

Murray told Sky Sports: "I served poorly. If I'd served better I could have made it easier and that's something I need to do better in the clay court season.

"This week I did a lot of things well, but I need to serve better. If I serve better I'll be able to win matches like this more comfortably.

"It's easier to return on clay, so it's even more important to serve well."

Murray's ultimate aim is a title challenge at the French Open, which gets underway on Sunday May 26th.
