Peter Fulton has warned there is plenty of hard work left to do if New Zealand are to seal a Test series win over England, with Graham Gooch retaining hope of saving the match.

Fulton became only the fourth Kiwi to score a century in each innings of a Test match as his side closed in on a win in the third and final Test match in Auckland, helping the Black Caps set the tourists an unlikely victory target of 481.

England were then reduced to 90-4 by the end of day four, leaving New Zealand needing six more wickets on the final day to take the series.

Fulton said after his starring role: "There's more hard work to do in the morning, then we've got another new ball, which hopefully will create some opportunities.

"I don't think anyone's getting too far ahead of themselves.

"The third wicket of Alastair Cook was massive for us, because he has shown he can bat for a long time."

Meanwhile, England batting coach Gooch has urged his side to fight to the end to try and salvage an improbable draw, adding: "Losing those two wickets at the end has made them favourites to win the game.

"We're under a lot of pressure, but we have some good players in our dressing room, some good young players and we have to believe we can save the game."
