Somerset batsman Nick Compton is unsure whether he has cemented his place in the England side even after scoring centuries in the last two Tests against New Zealand.

Compton scored steadily during last year's tour of India but his place in the Test side against the Black Caps was under threat after he failed to go on and make a big score.

However, he was picked to open the batting alongside Alastair Cook for the first Test against New Zealand and scored his maiden Test century in that match before adding another ton in the second Test in Wellington.

Both those Tests were drawn and England are 1.61 to win the third and final Test at Auckland's Eden Park while New Zealand can be backed at 8.00 to triumph.

Compton, 5.50 to be England's top batsman in the first innings of the third Test, said: "I've done well, but do I feel established? No, I still feel a long way off.

"I think it's great to be a part of this team and contributing but it's still early days. It's my second series."

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old insists he has not thought about this summer's Ashes series, adding: "It's something that now feels a bit more tangible but my mind is on this New Zealand series. To look too far forward is not wise.

"Maybe when you drift off to sleep you think about the Ashes, any aspiring cricketer would do, but right now I've got to be honest - I'm looking at the next game."
