England enjoyed another fine day in the third Test against India in Kolkata after progressing to 509-6, a lead of 193, by the close.

Alastair Cook missed out on a double century in odd fashion though when he was run out for 190. He failed to ground his bat when trying to avoid Virat Kohli's throw.

Cook shared in a stand of 173 with Jonathan Trott (87) for the second wicket before Kevin Pietersen chipped in with a swashbuckling 54.

Matt Prior and Graeme Swann were still there at the close after adding 56 runs for the sixth wicket as England edged towards a big first-innings lead.

England are now 1.57 to win the third Test, while India can be backed at 26.00 to take a 2-1 lead in the series and the draw is available at 2.50.

England started the day on 216-1, but Cook was handed a reprieve on 152 when Ishant Sharma put down the simplest of return catches.

Trott was eventually dismissed when he edged left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha to wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

After Cook's dismissal, Ian Bell was caught behind off the bowling of Sharma, before Pietersen was lbw when he attempted to sweep Ravichandran Ashwin.

Samit Patel made 33 before he edged one to slip off Pragyan Ojha before Patel and Swann pushed England's lead towards 200.
