Wales captain Sam Warburton has been left out of the starting line-up for the match against Samoa on Friday night in Cardiff.

Warburton is one of eight changes made to the side by Rob Howley following their 26-12 home defeat to Argentina last weekend. Ospreys openside Justin Tipuric comes in for Warburton, who is replaced as skipper by Ryan Jones, who will be leading his country for a record 29th time.

Ashley Beck, Dan Biggar, Mike Phillips, Paul James, Richard Hibbard and Bradley Davies are all drafted in, while Jamie Roberts will also line up after recovering from concussion sustained against Argentina.

Wales are 1.22 to defeat Samoa, who can be backed at 4.50.

"With a short six day turnaround it was important for us to freshen things up and also make use of the competition for places we have within this squad, something which has been a key ingredient for the success of the squad over the last 18 months," said interim coach Howley, whose side are 1.36 to win the race to 10 points on Friday.

"In making changes we also needed to bring in some genuine experience.

"It is important to have leaders throughout the team and we are hoping the likes of Mike Phillips, who made a positive impact last week, can bring his experience to the side."

Wales team:

Leigh Halfpenny; Alex Cuthbert, Ashley Beck, Jamie Roberts, George North; Dan Biggar, Mike Phillips; Paul James, Richard Hibbard, Aaron Jarvis, Bradley Davies, Ian Evans, Ryan Jones (Capt), Justin Tipuric, Toby Faletau.

Replacements: Ken Owens, Gethin Jenkins, Scott Andrews, Luke Charteris, Sam Warburton, Tavis Knoyle, Rhys Priestland, Scott Williams.
