American Ryder Cup star Keegan Bradley is ready to take on the golfing authorities and fight their plans to outlaw belly putters from the game.

Bradley was the first player to use a long putter to win a Major, excelling on the greens on his way to winning last year's USPGA Championship.

The putters are one of the most controversial talking points in golf at the moment and both the R & A and US Golf Association are expected to take steps to ban them in the coming months.

Both Webb Simpson and Ernie Els both used a belly putter to win Grand Slam events this summer and Bradley revealed that he is not going to accept any decision without a fight.

Bradley said: "I'm going to do whatever I have to do to protect myself and the other players on Tour.

"I look at it as a whole, as us all together. I don't look at it as much about myself. I think that for them to ban this after we've done what we've done is unbelievable."

Els added: "They're going to have a couple of legal matters coming their way," indicating the USGA and R & A. "It's going to be a bit of an issue now. I've been against it, but since I've been using it, it still takes a lot of practice, and you have to perfect your own way of putting with this belly."

Bradley and Els are both included in this week's strong field at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China - with world numbers one and two Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods the notable absentees.

German Martin Kaymer is the defending champion and 29.00 to retain his title, and is hoping the memory of last year helps inspire him over the next four days.

Kaymer said: "Last year was very nice. I had a great back nine on the Sunday - only 29 shots - so I have nice memories. Obviously it's a different golf course but the way I play I think I should have a chance."
