Andy Murray overcame a slow start to reach the US Open semi-finals, where he will face Tomas Berdych rather than number one seed Roger Federer.

Murray was a set and 5-1 down to Marin Cilic before turning the match on its head to triumph 3-6 7-6 6-2 6-0 to record a seventh win in eight meetings with the Croatian.

The third seed, now 2.87 to win his first Grand Slam title, admitted that he had struggled to get going in the match, but was pleased to have picked up and kept alive his hopes of laying to rest his major hoodoo.

He said: "I've had a lot of tough matches, everyone goes through them.

"We've seen Rafa, Novak and Roger struggle here. There is pressure on you to perform well, expectations are high and sometimes you're nervous."

Earlier, Berdych, 10.00 to win the title, had repeated his 2010 Wimbledon win over Federer by overpowering the top seed 7-6 6-4 3-6 6-3, setting up an intriguing clash with Murray.

The pair have met on six previous occasions, with Berdych holding a 4-2 winning record, but the duo have never met at a Grand Slam and Murray is 1.40 to reach the final and 6.00 to see off the Czech in five sets.

The other half of the draw is still at the quarter-final stage, with defending champion Novak Djokovic taking on 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro, while David Ferrer faces Janko Tipsarevic.
