Andy Murray admits that coping with the heat will be one of the keys to progressing towards a first-ever Grand Slam title at the US Open.

Third seed Murray was speaking after seeing off Croatian Ivan Dodig in straight sets to reach round three, with the winner of the all-Spanish clash between Pablo Andujar and Feliciano Lopez awaiting him in the last 32.

Lopez is 1.33 to see off Andujar, while Andujar is 3.25 to defeat the left-handed 30th seed.

Murray, who had not been happy with his display in his first-round win over Alex Bogomolov Jr, said after beating Dodig 6-2 6-1 6-3: "It was better than the first round, that's for sure.

"I moved better than I did in the first match and served better - I was able to dictate more of the points because of that. I was much happier with the way I played."

Murray, who is 4.33 to break his Grand Slam duck at Flushing Meadows, added: "I've got a couple of days to work on some things and I've got to get used to playing in the day, so I'll get out there in the heat."

The Scot will be boosted by a 6-0 career record against Lopez, who he beat in straight sets in the third round of the US Open 12 months ago, while Murray has yet to meet Andujar.
