Great Britain need a point against Uruguay to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Olympics following their 3-1 win over United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

GB went top of Group A with the victory at Wembley after Senegal's surprise win over the South Americans. A point against Uruguay at Cardiff on Wednesday will be enough to see Stuart Pearce's side through, but the GB coach believes his men are the underdogs.

"I think Uruguay are still favourites in our group," insisted Pearce, whose side are 2.30 to top Group A.

"It is an instant knockout situation, there is all to play for and that makes it even more exciting."

Ryan Giggs had headed GB in front on Sunday, becoming the oldest goalscorer in Olympic history, but their chances of qualifying looked in serious doubt after Rashed Eisa equalised for UAE.

However, Scott Sinclair scored with his first touch and Daniel Sturridge got the third with a fine chip to secure the victory in front of a crowd of 85,137.

The performance, although disjointed at times, was an improvement on the opening draw against Senegal, and midfielder Joe Allen believes the side will step up once more against Uruguay. The South Americans are 7.50 to win the group, with Senegal at 1.83.

"We know that Uruguay have world class players in their side and we will have to be on top of our game," said the Swansea player.

"But you could see that the performance against the UAE was a step above from the Senegal game and we are confident that with that win under our belts we will be flying against Uruguay."
