Andy Murray says he must improve his fitness ahead of Wimbledon following his exit from the French Open at the hands of David Ferrer.

The British number one lost in four sets on Wednesday evening to the Spaniard, who will now face compatriot Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals. Nadal is 1.071 to progress, while Ferrer can be backed at 9.00.

However, Murray, who has been suffering from an ongoing back problem, was left to rue missed opportunities against the sixth seed and admits he has much to work on after the 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 6-2 defeat.

"I need to get some good physical work in between now and Wimbledon. I need to make sure I am in slightly better shape," said the world number four, who is 6.50 to win his first Grand Slam at Wimbledon.

"I think that is going to be important for me. I was a little bit out of breath after some of the longer rallies today."

Murray insists he was pleased with his performance at Roland Garros this time out, despite not repeating his semi-final appearance of last year.

He added: "I think it was a good tournament for me.

"I probably wasn't feeling as good as I did coming in last year. I lost to a better clay-court player than me."
