Amir Khan has confirmed his title fight against Lamont Peterson, which had been due to take place on 19th May, will not now go ahead.

The American had tested positive for a banned steroid earlier this week, and Khan and Golden Boy Promotions have now confirmed the world title rematch has been cancelled.

Peterson had won Khan's WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles in controversial circumstances last December and Khan, who had battled for the chance of regaining his crowns, is disappointed the bout will not now take place.

"This has upset me, because I wanted to settle the score and win the world titles back," the Bolton-born fighter told the BBC.

"They should at least give those world titles back (to me).

"I'm upset for the fans. There were over 5,000 people who were travelling to Las Vegas, and there is going to be no fight there. It is a little bit disappointing. I feel for them. I wanted to win that fight for the fans."
