Kevin Davies will sit down with boss Owen Coyle later today to resolve his Bolton Wanderers future.

The veteran striker was given a standing ovation at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday after Bolton had booked their passage into the FA Cup fifth round with a 2-1 victory over Swansea City.

Davies is a firm target for Sunderland and the reaction from both the player and the fans at the final whistle hinted at a possible farewell bow.

But the 34-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, could yet sign a new one-year extension which would have him primed for the club's battle against relegation.

Bolton are currently 1.80 to finish in the bottom three and 5.00 to end up at the foot of the table.

Coyle wants to establish from the former Blackburn Rovers and Southampton forward if he is still up for the challenge, or he will allow him to speak with Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill before tomorrow's transfer deadline.

Bolton, who host Arsenal on Wednesday evening, have picked up in form and have just one defeat in their last seven games, something Davies might not want to overlook. Bolton are 29.00 to beat the Gunners 2-0 with Davies 9.00 to be the first scorer.

Coyle admits: "I am pretty sure that something could be sorted out. But it's the players that have the power in this situation. We have something like 10 players out of contract at the end of the season.

"If they play well then we want to keep them. I don't want to lose Kevin."
