British number one Andy Murray is aiming to improve his form later in the tournament after reaching the second round of the Australian Open by seeing off Ryan Harrison in four sets.
Murray was given a rude awakening by his American opponent in the first set, but roared back to run out a comfortable 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2 winner after just over three hours of action in Melbourne.
"He came out playing great tennis, going for his shots and hitting big," Murray said after a testing encounter.
"We had a few long rallies and he made me do a lot of running. I'll need to make sure in my next match that I play closer to the baseline.
"I started to play better towards the end, I had a few nerves early on. You want to play your best tennis towards the end of the tournament, so that's what I'll try and do."
Next up for Murray is France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin, as he bids to finally win a first Grand Slam title, having lost in the Melbourne final in each of the last two years.
Meanwhile, World number one Novak Djokovic raced into round two with a 6-2 6-0 6-0 thrashing of Paolo Lorenzi, with both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer having won their opening matches on Monday.
Defending champion Djokovic, a possible semi-final opponent for Murray, is 2.25 to retain his title, with Nadal 6.50 to be crowned champion and Federer 4.50.
Murray is 6.00 to end his Grand Slam hoodoo, having failed to win a set in any of his three finals to date.
