David Ferrer qualified for the knockout stage of the ATP World Tour Finals with a match to spare after a stunning win over world number one Novak Djokovic.

The Serb admitted it was his worst performance of the year after falling 6-3 6-1 to the fifth seed in just 75 minutes on Wednesday and may now have to defeat Janko Tipsarevic to advance in the tournament. He can be backed at 1/3 to defeat Tipsarevic, who is at 9/4 to pull off another shock.

"All the credit to David, he played a great match but I just wasn't there. It was the worst match I've played this season so far with so many unforced errors," said Djokovic after just his fifth loss of 2011.

"It's hard to find something that I did well really. My movement, my feel for the ball, my anticipation on the court, nothing. Just a terrible, terrible match.

"David was playing well, but I did not give him any resistance."

Ferrer, who is 8/1 to win the tournament, defeated Andy Murray in his first match and will take on Tomas Berdych on Friday already guaranteed to progress.

"I think Novak maybe was a little bit tired today, he made a few mistakes," said the Spaniard.

"But I played really well. I didn't make mistakes and for me this tournament is very important. Last year I didn't win a match and this year I've won two, so I'm really, really happy."
