Former Australia coach Eddie Jones says he would be interested in the England managerial vacancy, but Nick Mallet and Jake White have both ruled themselves out.

Martin Johnson resigned from the head coach post on Wednesday and elite rugby director Rob Andrew has been charged with finding a replacement ahead of the preparations for next February's Six Nations.

Jones, who took Australia to the 2003 World Cup final where they lost to England, says he would be excited by the challenge of following in Johnson's footsteps and is at 14/1 to be appointed. Jim Mallinder can be backed at 9/4 while Graham Henry is at 10/3.

"You'd always be interested in coaching England," he told the BBC.

"It has got a fantastic domestic competition, very, very good players and you have just got to get the right programme in place and they should be good enough to win the next World Cup."

Meanwhile, former Italy and South Africa coach Mallett says he was approached by the Rugby Football Union but has chosen to stay in Cape Town having settled there with his family.

"I was interested to hear what the RFU had to say," he revealed.

"After mulling it over for a few days and discussing the opportunity with friends and family, I have decided that I will not be making myself available."

White, who won the World Cup with South Africa in 2007, is contracted to Super 15 outfit ACT Brumbies and according to his representative Craig Livingstone will be staying in Australia.
