Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has allayed fears of a serious injury for Petr Cech after a clash of heads during the League Cup win over Fulham.

Cech was replaced at half-time by Ross Turnbull and was taken to hospital after colliding with Orlando Sa but Villas-Boas has confirmed he does not require any treatment.

"Petr went for a scan in the hospital and he's OK," said the Blues boss.

"He felt a little bit dizzy from the early concussion at half-time. We decided, and he decided as well, it was better not to take risks."

The keeper still wears protective headgear after fracturing his skull five years ago in a clash with Stephen Hunt.

Villas-Boas also confirmed Daniel Sturridge, who picked up a knee injury 'scoring' a disallowed goal, is not seriously hurt.

He said: "The ligaments are OK. If he misses one (game), it won't be more than that."

The game was won on penalties after neither side could score in normal or extra time. Chelsea were forced to play with ten men when Alex saw red for a challenge on Kerim Frei just after half-time and Villas-Boas admitted he was relieved to make it through to the next round.

"We thought by that as the game was going on, if we really had to go into extra-time, we could be struggling physically," he revealed.

"These players who played, a couple of them don't have enough minutes. Straight away, you're going into a 120-minutes situation, which is a lot for the body.

"That's why the win is special, because they were able to cope with it."
