Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are still on course to meet in the semi-finals of the US Open after both players reached the quarter-finals in New York.

It was a late night for five-time champion Federer as his match with Juan Monaco was delayed until nearly midnight local time due to the epic women's match that preceded it.

The Swiss ace was seemingly in a hurry to get to bed as he produced his best performance of the tournament so far, beating his Argentine opponent 6-1 6-2 6-0 in just 82 minutes.

The 16-time Grand Slam champion was at his sparkling best as he took the first set in just 18 minutes and will be a match for anyone if he can replicate this performance.

Federer will now face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarter-finals and will be gunning for revenge after losing a five-set epic to the Frenchman in the last eight at Wimbledon this year.

Should Federer negotiate his way past Tsonga, then world number one Djokovic could be waiting in the semi-finals, the Serb surviving an epic first set tie-break against Alexandr Dolgopolov before taking the match 7-6 (16-14) 6-4 6-2.

Djokovic will now face compatriot Janko Tipsarevic in the quarter-finals after he got the better of Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5 6-7 (3-7) 7-5 6-2.

Djokovic admits the clash against his Davis Cup team-mate is great for his country, but is expecting a tough battle in his bid to reach the semi-finals.

"I think this is the first time I play Janko in a Grand Slam. We are great friends. It's not going to be easy to play him, but look, it's the quarter-finals and we both want to win," he said.
