World number one Novak Djokovic served a warning to the rest of the field at the US Open with a devastating second-round victory.

Djokovic, 5/4 to win his third Grand Slam title of 2011 at Flushing Meadows, swept aside Argentinian Carlos Berlocq 6-0 6-0 6-2, before admitting that he was at his best for most of the match.

He said: "The first two sets were ideal, I could not play better.

"I was getting a lot of balls back, I was ending the points when I needed to. I was making a lot of winners. My serve was okay and my return was great.

"I felt fantastic on the court and there is not much I can say when everything seems fun and seems enjoyable."

Next up for Djokovic is Russia's Nikolay Davydenko, who should offer a much sterner test than clay-courter Berlocq.

Third seed Roger Federer also steamed into round three with a straight sets victory, seeing off Israeli Dudi Sela 6-3 6-2 6-2.

The major casualty in the men's draw was seventh seed Gael Monfils, with the Frenchman losing an epic five-setter to veteran Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero.
